What the rate includes
The crew, the truck or trucks, blankets and straps, trolleys, and the load, drive and unload. You are paying for working hours, not a menu of add-ons.
What actually drives the hours
Around Hornsby the honest answer is access, more than volume. The same two-bedroom load can be a short morning or a long afternoon depending on the doors at each end:
- Lifts and lift bookings. A booked lift with a loading bay is the fastest door in the suburb. An unbooked lift shared with Saturday traffic is not. Our apartment guide covers how to set this up.
- Stairs. Internal stairs, lobby stairs, the flight down to a garage. Stairs do not scare us; they just take minutes each trip, and hourly pricing means those minutes are yours. Tell us the flights and we will count them into the estimate.
- The carry from door to truck. On the ridge streets the driveway is the job: steep, stepped or long enough that where the truck stands matters. We plan that path before the day.
- Packing readiness. Boxed, sealed and labelled beats "nearly done" by an hour or two on a family house. The rate guide lists what to have done before we arrive.
- The drive between doors. Most of our runs are short: within the ring, the drive between doors is minutes. Sydney CBD is about 27km away when the move heads down the line.
How we estimate hours
When we call back we ask about both doors and give you a range, with the reasons attached: "the lift end is quick, the driveway end adds the time" tells you more than any single number. We do not quote a fixed total sight unseen, because a fixed total either pads the price to cover surprises or falls apart on the day. Hourly, planned honestly, is cheaper than both.
Keeping the hours down
The short version: book the lift, finish the packing, clear the path, and decide the furniture's destination rooms before the truck arrives. Each of those is worth real money at any hourly rate, and none of them costs you anything but forethought.
